Civil War symposium to be held in popular wetlands centre in Tipperary

Afternoon Symposium Presenting a Commemorative Centenary Event on the beginning of the drip-release of the Internees from the jails and prison camps following the Dump Arms atthe end of the Irish Civil War.
Speakers Kevin O’Reilly and Robert O’Keeffe – researchers and historians – will speak on the topic, placing emphasis on the attitude of the general public, the involvement of the Church, the rulings of the Provisional/Free State Government, conditions within the prison camps, the prolonged hunger-strike, the releases, lingering enmity, casualties and consequences.
MUSICAL INTERLUDE
This will constitute a fundamental component of the Commemoration and will be in every sense part of the fabric of the day.
It will complement the talks delivered, and will have input from individual artistes supplemented by Cabragh Wetlands Choir and Musicians.
Each item in this Interlude, whether it be music, song, poetry or dance will reference events relating to the Three Tipperary Brigades, Cumann na mBan, The Second Southern Division and will echo events within the prison camps.
The afternoon will conclude with an open forum.
We feel honoured that the Official Opening at 2.30pm will be performed by Dr Martin Mansergh.
The Wetlands Centre will be open from 1pm as there will be an Exhibition and Reception prior to the main event.
Admission is €10 . Booking is essential.
