Coláiste Mhuire congratulate their u16.5 hurling team on their Munster win

Kilcommon GAA Grounds witnessed jubilant scenes last Wednesday as the u16.5 hurling team won the Munster hurling title in a closely fought contest against St. Mary’s Newport.
From the very offset, both sides played with determination and commitment with a huge prize at stake. Newport played the first half with a stiff breeze assisting them and subsequently galloped into an eight points to a one-point lead.
The CMCO boys, however, dug deep and scored three points to leave just four between them at the break. The second half saw a more intensive approach from Coláiste Mhuire, and they picked off some well-taken scores from Alex Carroll in particular, who finished with a personal tally of 2-07.
CMCO were ahead with seven minutes to go 2-09 to 0-11 points, and despite Newport pressing for a badly needed goal, it was Coláiste Mhuire’s Callum Byrnes who struck for a third goal to deflate Newport and finish the game as a contest.
Coláiste Mhuire claimed their second Munster Cup in as many years on a 3-09 to 0-11 scoreline. Among those to excel for CMCO were Alex Carroll, Dylan Cotter, Callum Byrnes, Cathal Reilly, Darragh Patterson, Jake Galvin, Tony Maher and Kaelem Maher.

Well done also to management Mr Páraic Russell & Mr Matt Feehan for training and managing this special group of young hurlers that has culminated in them becoming Munster Junior hurling champions.
