Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District meeting told net curtains are blowing out of broken windows in the two buildings located along the N24

Two councillors have called on Tipperary County Council to put pressure on the owner of two derelict buildings on the N24 Pill Road in Carrick-on-Suir to be spruced up because they are “bringing down the tone” of their hometown.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Kieran Bourke issued the appeal at Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District’s latest monthly meeting and he was supported by fellow Carrick-on-Suir Cllr David Dunne of Sinn Féin.

Council management were told by Cllr Bourke that there were “broken windows and net curtains hanging out of them” in the buildings located next to Carrick Day Care Centre.

He said the buildings were purchased a number of years ago by a prominent business that applied for planning permission to redevelop the property.

In view of the amount of people passing by these buildings on the N24 daily, he urged the Council to contact the owner as soon as possible and demand they get “their house in order” by blocking up the windows and painting the buildings.

Cllr Bourke said if the owner of the properties didn’t do this work quickly, the Council should do it and send them the bill. “It's bringing down the tone of Carrick,” he declared.

Cllr David Dunne said he supported Cllr Bourke 100 per cent. He reminded the Council that €6.8m was spent on upgrading the N24 in Carrick-on-Suir and it was a “disgrace” the way this property was left.

District Engineer Denis Power promised to contact the council staff dealing with derelict sites and get them to issue a final warning to the owner of the property.

Cllr Bourke pointed out this had been done long ago.
