Motorists in Thurles are being advised to exercise caution if driving from Thurles to Littleton following a number of near misses with deer crossing the road.

Deer have been spotted in the area on a number of occasions as they go foraging for food at this time of the year, especially close to wooded areas, they cross roads and pathways all the time.

And, there have been a number of near incidents on the Mill Road and out onto Archerstown towards Littleton village.

A collision with a deer could prove to be very costly if not fatal in some cases.

These large animals travel at great speed and can dart suddenly, especially if frightened.

Colliding with one would result in considerable damage to a vehicle and could lead to a very serious accident occurring.

So please be careful, slow down, especially after dark and drive with caution.
