Historic Tipperary buildings to be renovated and used for education and training needs

Funding welcomed by Senator Garret Ahearn
Almost €8 million in capital funding has been allocated to a project in Tipperary, through the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund, a Fine Gael Senator has said.
Senator Garret Ahearn said: “This funding is Fine Gael’s Our Rural Future plan in action, delivering at local level and making a real difference in our rural towns and villages in Tipperary.

“The funding has been provided for Tipperary Town for the regeneration of Dan Breen House and Tipperary Courthouse and Bridewell. The funding will redevelop two historic buildings to provide high quality education and training spaces for youths and adults. It will also provide key community services in the town centre. The project will increase access to further education and training while reducing town centre vacancy and dereliction.
“Today’s announcement relates to the Fifth Call for Category 1 applications, which provides funding for large scale capital projects which have planning in place and are ready to proceed.
“The unprecedented national funding of €164 million announced today will revitalise towns and villages, addressing vacancy and dereliction, stimulating rural economies, and responding to community needs.
“The pandemic taught us all to appreciate the fantastic outdoors, right on our doorsteps, and this significant investment and funding further ensures that Tipperary remains a vibrant place for families, tourists, and the entire community to enjoy.
“This is more investment from Fine Gael into rural Ireland than ever before and these projects are all about making our rural towns and villages great places to live, work and raise a family.
“I will continue to do my utmost to ensure Tipperary remains of top priority when it comes to Government investment.” Senator Garret Ahearn concluded.
