While some thrived, many-faced poverty, crime, and prison. In cities like Boston, New York, and Toronto, Irish women made up a large part of the female prison population.

Based on years of research and a popular podcast, Bad Bridget uncovers the hidden histories of women on the margins.

Dermod and Denis Dwyer, a father and son duo will discuss at Immrama their visit in 2024 to the five countries that make up The Levant.

They will explain why they went there, what they saw and learned. Their book is “Desert Bonds: A Father and Son’s Middle East Odyssey” is a deeply personal and timely travel memoir.

It recounts their 3,500-kilometre road trip across this historically rich and politically complex region, undertaken just months after the Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza. The journey spanned 22 days and took them through ancient cities, sacred religious sites, and communities shaped by both beauty and hardship.

Dermod is a businessman and Denis is a film producer and documentary maker.

Robert O’Byrne is an author and TV presenter. At Immrama, he will speak about his book “The Irish Aesthete: Buildings of Ireland, Lost and Found.

“It examines Ireland’s architectural heritage using photographs, illuminating descriptions and anecdotes. He will take his audience on a thrilling journey across the country to show the enormous range of buildings he has recorded, both ruined and restored, from cottages to castles and from quirky to classic.”
