The Liberty Music Festival has gotten underway in Thurles.

The show opened up in spectacular fashion, with Reckless, a tribute to Bryan Adams, wowing early festival goers from 1pm.

EZ/DC took over from there, to the great excitement of rock and roll fans in the Thurles town park.

At the time of writing, These Charming Men are making their time on stage count, with their tribute act to The Smiths drawing cheers from everyone in the park.

Looking at the rest of the day, Essentially Cher will take to the stage at 4:35pm this afternoon, followed at 5:45pm by Madness.

Mac Fleetwood will see the crowd into the night, taking to the stage at 7:05pm.

ABBA will fill the penultimate slot of the night at 8:25pm, before Peat Loaf rounds out the opening night of the festival, with his tribute show to Meat Loaf getting underway at 9:45pm.

The crowd in the town park did not take long to approach capacity, with camping chairs flooding the park en masse, as eager dancers crowd the front of the stage.

Roughly 5,000 tickets were sold for the event, with the festival selling out back in January of this year.

The festival will continue into tomorrow afternoon, with Nanarama getting the proceedings underway at 1pm.
