National award for exceptional Tipperary volunteer Paddy Fitzgerald

Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams GAA clubman will be honoured at ceremony in Dublin
Paddy Fitzgerald has been named County Tipperary’s 2024 recipient of the Volunteers in Sport Awards.
He will be honoured by the Federation of Irish Sport at a special awards ceremony on Friday, February 28 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Blanchardstown, Dublin, alongside a volunteer from every county in Ireland in recognition of their dedication and passion for their local club.
Paddy’s service to Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams GAA Club spans decades, with his involvement in every major initiative over the years.
As a lifelong member, he has coached at all levels, bringing energy and passion to every project.
Paddy played a leading role in the redevelopment of the clubhouse, overseeing the design, planning and execution of the project.
He also spearheaded the modernisation of the club’s lotto system, integrating apps and QR codes to boost sales.
A tireless fundraiser, he organised the golf classic for ten years, which played a pivotal role in the club’s financial stability.
His commitment extends beyond the club, as he is a founding member of the Rapparee Cycling Club and a director of the Dundrum Community Centre.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of Irish sport, driving participation across all disciplines,” says Sport Ireland CEO Dr Úna May.
