New town and village renewal scheme launches with towns in Tipperary invited to apply

Funding under the scheme will be available to help the rural development of towns across Ireland.
The 2025 Town and Village Renewal Scheme, designed to support the revitalization of rural Ireland and build greater resilience in our town centres through regeneration projects, has been launched and communities in Tipperary have been asked to apply for funding under the new scheme.
Up to €500,000 per Local Authority is available for the acquisition of vacant or derelict buildings or lands for town regeneration purposes.
Welcoming the announcement of the 2025 Scheme, Deputy Michael Lowry says that this Scheme continues to have a hugely positive impact in Ireland’s rural towns and villages. ‘This further investment will enhance and strengthen this work, and I encourage communities across North Tipperary and South-West Kilkenny to engage with it’ he says.
Funding is available to stimulate town centre economic and social regeneration and resilience, with a focus on tackling vacancy and dereliction to bring additional footfall into town centres. Funding is also available for the pre-development costs associated with projects to help communities develop applications for future funding calls.
Rural Development continues to be a key priority for the Government with a view to supporting the revitalisation and resilience of rural Ireland, transforming towns and villages and creating better places to live, work and participate in their local community.
Three funding streams are available under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme: The Main Scheme, the Project Development Measure and the Building or Land Acquisition Measure.
Projects will align with the objectives of Government policies under ‘Our Rural Future, Town Centre First’ and ‘Our Living Islands’. with a focus on:
- Driving town centre regeneration.
- Supporting town or village centre plaza development.
- Development of green spaces or recreational amenities in town or village centres.
- The enhancement of our streetscapes.
- Supporting town or village centre markets.
- Upgrading or refurbishing community centres.
- Bring vacant and derelict buildings back into use as multi-purpose community spaces.
- Supporting vibrant and sustainable Gaeltacht communities and island communities on Ireland’s inhabited offshore islands.
