Over 350 Tipperary farmers hold meeting and sign petition against splash plate ban

The farmers held a meeting in Upperchurch this week to discuss the proposed ban on using splash plates for spreading slurry.
A meeting in Upperchurch was attended by over 350 farmers on Tuesday night Ocotober 22 to discuss the proposed ban on using splash plates for spreading slurry.
From January 1 2025 farmers will be required to use new slurry spreading equipment in conjunction with new government guidelines.
The issue was previously raised in the Dáil by Michael Lowry TD in which he voiced concerns and highlighted the serious health and safety risks associated with the use of this new equipment on hillside terrain, which affects numerous farmers.
Lowry said on the matter "While the new tanks and attachments are effective on low-level ground, they pose severe dangers on slopes, potentially leading to life-threatening incidents."
Those present at the meeting this week signed a petition against the splash plate ban.
