In the council’s June Management report it says that of the 66 dogs that have been seized so far: “37 of that number were sent to rescue, 10 were reclaimed by their owners, 3 were rehomed and 11 were put to sleep.”

Cllr Declan Burgess shared the statistic with Tipperary County Council’s June meeting earlier this month, after other councillors brought up issues their constituents were facing regarding rats, horses and dogs around the county.

The Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council asked for the Environment section of the council to share the breakdown of where these dogs have been seized around the county.

Cllr Burgess said “I want to thank Andrew the dog warden who was engaged with me on a number of issues in the past. There is an issue with rogue dogs around the Wallers Lot area in Cashel.” explained Cllr Burgess.

He continued “I know 66 dogs have been seized. Can we ask for a breakdown across the county of where those dogs are being seized please? I think it will be beneficial to our members.”
