Planning application withdrawn for a development close to Tipperary's Rock of Cashel

A planning application for a 28-bedroom hotel close to the Rock of Cashel has been withdrawn.
According to the Tipperary County Council e-planning portal, the application made by Marymount Assets Limited was officially withdrawn on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.
The development, if it had been approved, would have been located at Moor Lane on a greenfield site at the base of the rock's southern slope.
Also included would have been landscaping, the demolition of a hay shed, the provision of new opening in the boundary wall for emergency all ancillary development works.
However, following the submission last October, there was public outcry and concerns about the impact on the site's potential as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Those who made submissions against the planning application included the Head of UCD School of Archaeology, Professor Joanna Bruck, local archaeologist Neil Jackman (Abarta Heritage) and Queen’s University’s Dr Patrick Gleeson.
The council sought more information in December 2022, which was provided in June this year according to the database.
However, the application was officially withdrawn this week.
