A six year jail term has been imposed on a man prosecuted over a spate of robberies carried out on bookmarkers offices in county Tipperary last autumn.
Detective Supt. James Tierney informed the final meeting of Tipperary Joint Policing Committee of the recent conviction and sentencing of the man charged in relation to the robbery of betting shops in Clonmel, Carrick-on-Suir and Thurles districts.
The man was sentenced at Clonmel Circuit Court.
The detective superintendent, who is in charge of crime investigations in Clare/Tipperary Garda Division, also reported that suspects have been charged and brought before the courts in relation to four robberies carried out in county Tipperary this year.
One of the robberies took place in Clonmel, two were in Tipperary Town and one was in the Thurles area, he told the Joint Policing Committee meeting.
