Stunning artwork of Tipperary shopfronts to go on display
Thurles artist Bernard Dowd will exhibit his work in Insomnia next week
Local artist Bernard Dowd will exhibit his work in Insomnia on the Slievenamon Road Thurles this October.
The official opening will be at 4pm, Tuesday, October 8 with coffee.
The Thurles native paints the shopfronts of Thurles, including Healthy Haven, Bookworm and Le Château.
Mr Dowd is also a cartoonist working for The Clare Champion and The Source Magazine.
His work appeared on the front page of the Tipperary Star in 2018 in support of those protesting against the moving of the Thurles post office from Liberty Square.
The piece reimagined the Wolfe Tone monument on Liberty Square as a postman and the plaque said: “SOS, Save our Square” and “Keep our Post Office in the Square.”
These days, Mr Dowd preserves the shopfronts of Thurles in vibrant watercolour.
