Deniece Tuohy took on the challenging hilly half marathon in Dubrovnik Sunday
A huge congratulations to Deniece Tuohy to, in extremely warm and humid weather, crossed the finish line in a very respectable 1.55 in Dubrovnik recently.
This half marathon is only the start of Deniece's big races this year.
Thurles Crokes also provided the following update after a busy week on the track:
Kinsale 10 Mile: The club had 2 athletes in the race Easter Monday. Rosarie Harrington finished in a very impressive 1.43, followed by Helena Mawe in at 1.50. Not a bad Easter Monday ladies, well done.
Juvenile Open Track & Field Day: Our juvenile athletes had a fantastic day out in Moyne Saturday winning numerous medals in the girls u11 300m and the boys u15 600m. Great going everyone and thanks to Moyne AC for hosting.
County Novice B Road Championships: The club celebrated a remarkable evening in Fethard yesterday, clinching both the coveted team trophy and their first individual medal of the season in a fiercely contested road race.
As per usual, first up was the women's 3k race. The club had 4 athletes in the race, Eileen Bourke, Emily Butler, Joan Stakelum and Regina Dorney. First in for the club in 9th place was Eileen in a very strong time of 13.15 followed by Joan in 12th, Regina in 13th and Emily 21st.
Unfortunately the team missed out 3rd place by a single point.
The women's team have put in strong performances on the roads to date.
Next up was the men's 6k and we had 5 athletes. The highlight of the night came from Shane Moloney, who stormed home to secure first place for Thurles Crokes AC in a commanding time of 20:24.
Moloney’s performance set the tone for the club, putting them firmly in contention for team honours from the outset. Not far behind Moloney was club captain Denis McCullagh, who finished an impressive fourth overall with a time of 21:25. Peter Maher followed, crossing the line in 13th place in 22:22.
The combined efforts of these three athletes ensured Thurles Crokes AC topped the team standings, earning them the overall team trophy for the evening. The club’s strength in depth was further demonstrated as Paul Dolan finished as the fourth scorer for Thurles Crokes AC, clocking 23:35. ,
Hot on his heels was John Butler, who finished just a second later, underlining the club’s collective determination and consistency across the field.
This victory marks a significant achievement for Thurles Crokes AC, not only for the silverware collected but also for the individual breakthrough by Shane Moloney, whose first-place finish adds an individual medal to the club’s growing list of accolades.
The team’s success in Fethard is a testament to their hard work this year.
