Tipperary council organises information meeting on new Carrick-on-Suir development plan

The meeting will take place in Carrick-on-Suir's Sean Healy Public Library
Preparations have begun to draw up a new six-year development plan for Carrick-on-Suir that Tipperary County Council aims to adopt by spring next year.
An information session for people interested in making submissions to the Council about what they think should be included in the Carrick-on-Suir Local Area Plan 2025-2031 will take place in Carrick’s Sean Healy Library on Wednesday, May 15 from 3pm to 7pm.
The information event is being hosted by the Council planning policy team working on devising the draft Carrick-on-Suir Local Area Plan.
Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District councillors were informed about the start of the process for drafting the development plan and information session at their April monthly meeting in Carrick-on-Suir Town Hall last Thursday.
District Administrator Marie O’Gorman said the Council’s Planning Section is working on the first of three stages in the process of drawing up the new development plan.
She said planners are currently collecting data and information with the intention of commencing the formal process of drawing up and publishing the draft Local Area Plan this autumn.
As part of this pre-draft information gathering phase, the Council will start a four week period of public consultation on Tuesday, May 7. It will end on Tuesday, June 4.
“During this period all stakeholders will be able to make submissions on their vision, concepts and principles for the development of the Local Area Plan,” Ms O’Gorman explained.
And she stressed: “It’s important to note that this is not a statutory consultation but an element in the collection of information and making citizens aware of the forthcoming plan.”
To help people with making submissions, the Council’s planning policy team will be publishing an “Issues Paper” with key questions and ideas on how the LAP is addressed. It will be sent to local councillors before the start of the public consultation process.
Ms O’Gorman pointed out that before the draft Local Area Plan is published in the autumn, the planning policy team will organise workshops for councillors explaining the development plan process and their role in its formation and adoption.
The final third phase of the LAP will commence in early 2025 and it’s anticipated the Plan will be adopted in the spring of 2025.
