The Cathaoirleachs of Tipperary County Council and Nenagh Municipal District Council have been called on by Cllr Seamus Morris to convene an urgent meeting of all local and national politicians, the fire chiefs, all declared local election candidates and representatives of the Nenagh Needs its A&E group to discuss the "very serious health and safety consequences of the failure of the whole reconfiguration of emergency services in the Mid West".

Cllr Morris told Cllr Ger Darcy and Cllr John "Rocky" McGrath that it was now time to give political leadership on this.

"Yesterday saw the worst trolley numbers in the history of trolley numbers with 150 patients on trolleys. The consequence of those emergency protocols that have to be put in place is trolleys in Nenagh Hospital and over 200 cancellations of much-needed operations for patients," he said.

The Independent councillor said that these were health and safety issues for staff and patients alike.

"I am bewildered as to the lack of action from the fire services in Limerick. This is the most serious issue and needs to be discussed immediately," he said.
