Tipperary courier driver's 'moment of madness' over one weekend leads to driving ban

A man who had a “moment of madness” over the one weekend, has been put off the road by Nenagh District Court for driving without insurance.
Liam Murphy of Capparoe, Nenagh, pleaded to having no insurance on September 2 and September 4, 2021, and to dangerous driving on September 4, 2021, and having no driving licence.
The court heard Mr Murphy was stopped by gardaí at Sarsfield Street, Nenagh, on September 2, 2021, and found to be driving while disqualified and had no insurance.
On September 4, 2021, he was observed driving in the town and he picked up speed and drove out Limerick Road reaching speeds of approximately 120km/h in a 50km/h zone, the court heard.
“It was a moment of madness over the same weekend,” his solicitor, Johnny Spencer, told the court.
He said his client was 44 years old and was a driver for a courier company.
“This will have a severe impact on him,” he said.
Judge Elizabeth MacGrath disqualified Mr Murphy from driving for four years for driving without insurance on September 9, 2021, and fined him €400; she took the same charge on September 2 into account.
She fined him €300 for dangerous driving on September 4.
Judge MacGrath took the charge of driving without a licence into account.
