The Men's Shed in Fethard is asking for the community to come together and help support them reach their fundraising goal, which will be used to update essential services the premises needs to stay open.

A community group in Tipperary has issued a desperate plea for donations to ensure they can keep the lights on and continue providing an essential service to local men.

Michael Costello, a member of Men’s Shed Fethard, has made a heartfelt appeal to the local community, calling on people to help support the organisation by donating toward essential running costs.

The group has set up a GoFundMe page, where anyone who is in a position to can donate towards the cause.

"Our Clubhouse has no electricity and no running water. Basic services that most of us take for granted.

"Without these vital connections to work lighting, heating, power for tools, and running water for comfort and hygiene, the future of the Men's Shed is at risk," Michael said.

The group are aiming to raise €15,000 to €20,000 to cover the costs of installing electricity and water to their current premises.

The breakdown for funding would be as follows:

  • Electrical connection and installation
  • Water connection supply and fit.
  • Essential safety works in line with Health and Safety regulations
  • Make our Clubhouse fit for purpose all year round.

The Men's Shed plays a crucial role in supporting men's health and wellbeing, particularly in rural communities. They help combat isolation, depression, and loneliness by giving men purpose, routine, and companionship.

"Therefore your donation no matter how small, will help secure the future of Men's Shed Fethard and ensure that we provide this vital space for years to come.

"If you are not in a position to donate you might consider sharing our campaign with friends, family, and on social media.

"From the bottom of our hearts, we sincerely thank you for your support, generosity, and belief in what we are trying to build for our community.

"Together we can keep the Men's Shed light on - quite literally," he concluded.
