Tipperary man is jailed for drug possession on three separate occasions

A Roscrea man has been jailed by Nenagh District Court for possessing drugs on three separate occasions.
Tommy Murphy, 19, of 24 Ard na Gréine, Knock Road, Roscrea, pleaded to possession of €140 worth of cannabis and €84 worth of Alprazolam tablets at Ormond Street, Nenagh, on May 8, 2022, and possessing €20 of cannabis at Grove Street, Roscrea, on July 20, 2022.
Mr Murphy is currently serving a four-year sentence, with the final two years suspended, handed down by Nenagh Circuit Criminal Court in May for the attempted robbery of a fast-food outlet in Roscrea on November 20, 2021, in which he wielded a kitchen knife at a staff member.
His solicitor, Liz McKeever, told the District Court last Friday that Mr Murphy was known to the court and had had an issue with drugs and alcohol. He was anxious to deal with the matters before the court.
Judge Elizabeth MacGrath said that she would not add to the time Mr Murphy is already serving in prison.
She jailed him for two months for possession of cannabis on May 8 and for two months, concurrently, for possession of cannabis on July 20. She took the possession of Alprazolam into account.
Both sentences will run alongside the sentence Mr Murphy is currently serving.
