A Tipperary man who had been just let out of prison was found “slouched over” outside a fast food outlet in Bansha, Nenagh District Court was told.

Alfred Cawley, 36, of Rocklow Road, Fethard, pleaded to being intoxicated in public and threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour at Main Street, Bansha, on November 24, 2023.

Sgt Tom Hanrahan, Thurles Garda Station, told the court that Mr Cawley had 79 previous convictions.

Solicitor David Peters, for Mr Cawley, agreed that it was fair to say that his client did not have a “good record”.

Judge Philip O’Leary asked Mr Cawley what he intended to do about his drinking, to which Mr Cawley replied: “I’ll get a bit of help down in Clonmel.”

He told the court that he had only been let out of jail when the incident happened.

Judge O’Leary fined Mr Cawley €25 on each of the charges and told him: “I hope you take the opportunity to sort yourself out.”
