Riverdale course was in pristine condition

The Munster Scotch Foursomes, Mixed and Non Mixed pitch and putt competition was held in Riverdale, Nenagh.

Credit goes to the fantastic Riverdale course, which was in pristine condition, but then again it always is. Well done to everyone who worked on the course in order to get it ready for hosting this two-day competition.

The high footfall of day one was invisible on the course on day two - it is a credit to all the team involved in this North Tipperary local amenity. Well done and thank you to all who made the day possible. The tea, coffee, sandwiches and buns were greatly appreciated too.

Day one saw the staging of the mixed competition. There was good representation from Larkspur Park in Cashel and in the winner’s enclosure. Flying the Larkspur flag high were Eoghan Aylward and Gemma Martin, who won the Best First Round Nett with a score of nine points.  The weather was what one might call testing, if you like gale force winds, hailstones, driving rain and then a bit of sun, in that order.  Eoghan and Gemma worked well together, each displaying their strengths when needed on what is a tough course.

Day two saw a good field of Cashel players in the non-mixed competition. Congratulations are in order for Joe Hickey of Larkspur Park, who partnered with Adrian Anglim of Hillview - this pair worked like a dream.  Adrian's excellent pitching complemented Joe's fantastic standard of putting and chipping. This led to them claiming the overall title with a very impressive score of 23 points.

The gross winners were Paul Sweeney (Larkspur) and his partner Stephen O’Reilly of Hillview. Last but by no means least - here come the girls - the winners of the ladies section were the two Larkspur lassies, Grainne Shelly and Gemma Martin, with a very impressive score of 16 points.

Larkspur thanks all players who travelled to Nenagh, either in a cheerleading capacity or as players.  It was very much appreciated, and great to see some of the club’s players' names in lights over the two days.

On a sadder note, the club extends its condolences to the family and friends of great clubman Paddy Hoare, who passed away recently.  Paddy had been a fantastic player during the club's early days and he had returned to playing following his retirement in recent years.  He was a great supporter of local competitions but his genial personality and friendliness will be really missed by all, especially at the Tuesday evening scrambles, which Paddy enjoyed immensely.
