Tipperary stalwart of the musical stage and assistant fire officer Dick Gough passes away

The death has taken place of Richard "Dick" Gough, a former stalwart of the stage in Nenagh and a former assistant county fire officer.
Dick, father of award winning author Julian Gough, was also a renowned woodturner and bog oak artist and exhibited in many locations throughout the Premier County. He also featured in Kenny Gallery in Galway.
Dick polished and shaped the natural lines of ancient bog timbers as a hobby for many years, working with wood preserved in bogs for anything from 2,000 to 5,000 years.
His exclusive wood sculptures were presented to the inaugural Mid-West Entrepreneur of the Year and to the Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year in 2000.
He was a well known figure from the musical stage, having taken part in numerous productions over the years with Nenagh Choral Society. He was also involved with the Nenagh Players.
As well as being in the fire services in Tipperary, Dick also worked in the fire service in the UK.
Dick, of Sue Ryder House and late of Knockalton Upper, Nenagh, Tipperary / Boherlahan, and formerly of Ballydine, Cashel, always had a smile and a word for people coming to shows in either the Scouts Hall or Nenagh Arts Centre when he acted as front-of-house.
He passed away on Saturday, February 24, at home.
