Triple national swimming champion has connections to Tipperary

Izabella Lehany McGoldrick trains with Longford Swim Club
Over five days of intense competition at the Swim Ireland Irish Youth and Senior Summer Nationals, Izabella Lehany McGoldrick of Dromahair, Co Leitrim, who trains with Longford Swim Club, and who has strong connections to Tipperary, proved why she is one of Ireland’s brightest young swimming talents.
The event, held at the National Aquatic Centre, attracted over 1,000 swimmers representing 116 clubs from across the country.
Izabella took on six challenging races — the 50 metres, 100 metres and 200 metres freestyle, 100 metres and 200 metres backstroke, and the 200 metres individual medley (IM) — achieving personal bests in every single event, demonstrating impressive consistency and progress.
While she narrowly missed the podium with fourth place finishes in the fiercely-contested 100 metres freestyle, 200 metres freestyle, and 200 metres backstroke, Izabella shone brightly with spectacular gold medal victories in the 50 metres freestyle, 100 metres backstroke and 200 metres IM, securing her status as a triple national champion.
Under the expert guidance of Head Coach Ronan McNevin, Assistant Coaches Barry Hall and Gerry Quinn, and Regional Coach Helen Gunning, Izabella’s success is a testament to dedicated coaching and unwavering support.
Izabella’s achievements highlight not only her natural talent but also her relentless work ethic and deep passion for swimming.
This determination and love for the sport are what continue to propel her forward, promising a very bright future on the national stage.
A proud connection to her roots adds to her story — Izabella is the great-granddaughter of the late Michael and Josephine Boland of Rathkenny, Drangan, Co Tipperary.
Her family and the wider community in Tipperary will undoubtedly be cheering her on as she continues to make waves in Irish swimming.
