URGENT: Appeal for blood donors as two-day clinic opens in local Tipperary town
The Dome by Semple Stadium is hosting a clinic in Thurles this week
A series of vital blood donation clinics are taking place in Thurles this week.
According to the Irish Blood Transfusion Service supplies are worryingly low with demand continuing to rise month on month.
Clinics are being held at the Dome in Semple Stadium from Wednesday evening (June 25) through until Thursday evening (June 26) from 4.50pm to 8.10pm.
The IBTS says as well as regular donors they badly need new donors to volunteer.
O negative blood stocks have become critically low and the IBTS are seeking the assistance of Thurles donors this week.
Many people will be aware the O negative blood is known as the Universal Blood Type and is critical for emergencies where there is no time for ‘blood typing’ and is used in trauma centres and ambulances.
Right now Irish supplies of O negative are particularly low and the IBTS are urging any Thurles O negative donors to please make an appointment if you get a text from them.
To make an appointment at any of these clinics, please call 1800 222 111.
