8,000 litre water tankers sought by Tipperary County Council

The water tankers can be used on-site, or they can fill a temporary dam
Tipperary County Council are looking for suppliers of two large water tankers, to be used for “large or remote” fires, like the one that occurred on Slievenamon last July.
The tankers, which carry about 8,000 litres of water, are intended to be used so the water can be dumped into a dam at the incident site or it can be used on-site.
The budget for the equipment is approximately €560,000. These water tankers can also spray oil detergent to wash oil spills from roadways.
The requirements for the 8,000 litre water tankers are that they can pump 2,000 litres a minute,
The availability of large volumes of water is a fundamental requirement for fire-fighting operations. Water availability is not always guaranteed as seen recently during major storms.
In these circumstances, water tankers provide a crucial logistical support for fire-fighting operations. The vehicles need to have the ability to be driven at 20 kph when the pump is on.
There is also a requirement for the suppliers to provide a water dam, with the capacity to hold at least 8,800 litres.
The water tankers also need to be fast, and be capable of reaching 65kph in less than 20 seconds and be driven at 120kph if necessary.
