Cahir News - Around the Town

Cahir Tidy Towns

The Cahir Group were delighted to hear that the hard work has paid off and they have retained their bronze medal for 2026 in this year’s National Tidy Towns Competition. It’s always a worry for them that they might fall short but an increase in 14 points leaves them only 2 points short for a Silver Medal and 7 for Gold, so it’s all hands on deck in 2027..

The competition begins in May each year so they are already 5 months into the 2027 competition. Thanks go to everyone who helped during the year and to those who support the group financially and from administration to donating machinery. They have a great group of volunteers, an active youth committee and more recently a great group of ladies from Cahir ICA and are assisted by Tipperary County Council staff and TUS workers daily also. There are too many to mention but they know who they are. If you can help to improve our Town in any way please don’t hesitate to contact us to help us retain our medal and gain more points in 2027.Well done everyone for all the hard work. Congratulations also to all Tidy Towns Groups in the towns and villages around the county that made great gains in this year’s competition. The Green Flag awards will be announced in November and we hope to be in the running here too. Meetings on Wednesday evenings are on hold due to fading light but we meet on Saturday mornings, weather provided, until we are winter ready.

Cahir Park AFC U14 Boys - A fantastic performance yesterday from our U14s as they battled through pouring rain to secure a brilliant home win against Slievenamon in the U15's National Trophy!

Szymon Stepien made a superb return to the goal, showing outstanding form to handle the constant pressure from their two very fast strikers. Even though Slievenamon took the lead first, the boys responded almost instantly with João Gouveia applying a fine touch to equalize after a free kick.

Both teams came out strong for the second half, but our squad played some great football and took more and more control of the game as the minutes ticked by. The breakthrough finally came when our captain, Jack Noon, hit an unstoppable strike from outside the box that flew right under the crossbar. The boys held their nerve, didn't let the win slip away, and defended brilliantly to ensure we proudly advance to the next round.

Massive congratulations to the entire squad and Management: Szymon S., Alan, Thomas, Cathal, Evan, Callum, Jack P., Ryan, Kai, Jack N., João, Aronas, Szymon K., Maksym, and Gabriel. Well done boys, an incredibly well-deserved victory!
