Carrick-on-Suir fitness coach to take on five marathons in 24 hours in aid of Movember campaign

A fitness coach at a Carrick-on-Suir gym will take on the epic physical challenge of completing five marathon distances in 24 hours tomorrow (Saturday) for the Movember campaign that raises awareness of men's health issues such as cancer research and suicide prevention and also raises funds for these causes.
Seán Cooney, who works at the BodyWorX Gym on New Street, will start his grueling feat at 2.30am tomorrow by running a full 26.2 miles marathon from his home at Jonestown, Carrickbeg, Co. Waterford into Carrick-on-Suir where he will proceed out to Lower Ballylynch and then finish the marathon running along the scenic Blueway.
After completing the marathon run, he will cycle a marathon distance on a gym bike at BodyWorX Gym. After completing this challenge, he will move to the rowing machine to cover the marathon distance in that discipline.
At the end of the rowing stage, he will take a half hour break to rest and eat and then embark on his fourth marathon of the day on the gym's skier machine.
Seán, who plays hurling and football with St Molleran's GAA Club, will take on the final marathon challenge on another piece of gym equipment – an assault bike.
He is hoping to complete the five marathons in between 18 to 20 hours.
Seán said he is doing the challenge as part of the Movember campaign to raise funds for cancer research, particularly for testicular and prostate cancers that affect men, and for suicide prevention.
He decided to take on the challenge of completing five marathons in 24-hours as the pain and endurance needed to complete challenge mirrored the suffering that people with depression and other mental health illnesses suffer.

There will also be a donations collection bucket in BodyWorX Gym on Saturday while Seán is doing the 5 marathons challenge and it will remain there until December 1.
