€87k approved for major road upgrade project to improve safety in a Tipperary town

Funding will deliver lighting, footpaths, traffic calming and safer crossings
Significant upgrade works are set to go ahead on Camus Road in Cashel following the approval of funding through Development Levies.
A total of €87,104 has been allocated for the Camus Road Streetscape Enhancement Scheme, which will deliver a range of improvements to the area.
The project has been welcomed locally, following years of calls for upgrades to footpaths, public lighting and general road safety in the area.
The works will include improved and additional public lighting from Camus Road to the back of the Rock, along with road realignment and the installation of new footpaths.
A raised table is also planned as part of traffic calming measures, aimed at improving safety for road users and pedestrians alike.
In addition, the scheme will include a safer pedestrian crossing and improved vehicle access at the Golden Road junction. Wider traffic flow improvements are also expected along Camus Road, along with associated works.
Previously approved funding for road resurfacing will also be delivered alongside the streetscape works, ensuring both elements are carried out together as part of the overall improvement plan.
Fine Gael councillor Declan Burgess said the allocation follows sustained engagement on the need for investment in the area over a number of years.
He said: “After many years of advocating for upgrades here, including raising the need for improved footpaths, public lighting and overall safety through tabling council motions over the years, I am pleased to confirm that €87,104 has been allocated for the Camus Road Streetscape Enhancement Scheme. This is very welcome news for the area.”
Cllr Burgess added the works represent an important step forward for the locality, particularly in addressing long-standing issues raised by residents regarding safety and infrastructure.
He also said that he will continue to keep local residents informed as the design stage is finalised and as the project moves forward towards construction. The project is currently planned for delivery towards the end of the summer.
Cllr Burgess also acknowledged the role of council engineers in progressing the scheme and thanked local residents for their continued engagement and patience over the years.
He stated: “I would like to thank the area engineers for their collaboration on this project, and especially the many residents and local people who have consistently called for these improvements over the years. Your patience and support are greatly appreciated.”
