High-protein Tipperary sausages hit the SuperValu shelves
The special ‘boerewors sausages’ are made by Zimbabwean native Meg Muir
Cashel-based sausage maker ‘Renegade Trading’ is among 21 new food and drink producers launching products in selected SuperValu stores after completing the retailer’s ‘Food Academy’ programme.
The business produces high-protein ‘boerewors sausages’ in Cashel. Its products are described as having a ‘high meat content with no fillers’, and are marketed as high in protein and low in fat.
Commenting on the business and the success of this most recent milestone, Renegade Trading founder Meg Muir said:
"I was born in Zimbabwe and developed a passion for food through years working in hospitality across Africa.
"In 2018, I moved to Co Tipperary, where I began bringing my family’s traditional boerewors recipes to life using quality Irish ingredients.
"At Renegade Trading, we produce small-batch, high-protein boerewors with no fillers – a premium product rooted in authenticity, flavour, and nutrition. It’s a taste of Africa made with love, tradition, and heart.
"Joining the Food Academy has been a pivotal step in our journey, giving me the support, skills, and confidence to grow the business and introduce our products to a wider Irish market.”
Renegade Trading is the latest of several Tipperary business to complete the Food Academy programme, which has been run by SuperValu in partnership with the Local Enterprise Offices for the past 13 years now.
Previous participants from the county include Mags Home Baking in Nenagh, Larkins Hill Farm in Puckane, Inch House in Templemore, Three Men in a Trailer in Dundrum, May’s and Kay’s Kitchen in Bansha, Clonmore Farm and Nancies Fancies from Cahir, and Irish Hedgerow and Rívesci from Clonmel.
The programme offers training and mentoring to food producers, along with the opportunity to have products stocked in select SuperValu stores for the year.
