Man accused of swearing at gardaí remanded in custody by Tipperary court

The court heard accused was on bail at the time of the alleged Thurles incident
A man accused of swearing at gardaí while intoxicated has been remanded in custody on public order charges.
Peter Tobin, 66, of no fixed abode, appeared before Nenagh District Court on charges arising from an incident at a retail premises in Liberty Square, Thurles, on June 11.
Garda Moore told the court he responded to reports of an intoxicated male at approximately 9.50pm and could smell alcohol from Mr Tobin's breath.
The garda said he asked Mr Tobin how he was, to which he replied: "How the f*** do you think I am? Are you f***ing stupid?"
Mr Tobin was arrested under Sections 4 and 6 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994, and brought to Thurles Garda Station.
When cautioned following his arrest, Mr Tobin replied: "Are you a f***ing parrot?" The following morning, when formally cautioned on the charges, he made no reply.
The court heard that while in custody, gardaí became aware of an outstanding bench warrant for Mr Tobin's appearance before Nenagh District Court.
Judge Marie Keane was told that Mr Tobin was on bail for a theft charge in Thurles, with a condition that he remain out of the town.
The State opposed bail under O'Callaghan's rules. Defence solicitor Conor Delaney said his client was not seeking bail.
Judge Keane remanded Mr Tobin in custody to Thurles District Court on June 16 and Cashel District Court on June 19.
