A group of people who parked up to 35 caravans at Streame Business Park over the past weeks had “no regard for business or the local community”, Cllr John Carroll told the May meeting of Nenagh Municipal District Council.

The caravans have since moved to a location near Carrigatoher, the meeting was told.

However, he said that business owners there needed to improve their security to prevent a recurrence.

Cllr Carroll said there was a need for "clarity" between what the gardaí can do and how the courts responded to situations such as that at Streame.

Cllr Seamus Morris said the “level of intimidation was of the highest order. People were distraught trying to get to and from work. Nobody could stand by what went on.”

He said people should not be subject to this "level of intrusion".

He said each car there should have been clamped.

District Administrator Rosemary Joyce said that the council would now have to get the area cleaned up.

She said that what had gone on was "exactly as you have described".

She also stated that property owners needed to see what they could do to prevent it happening again.
