Parish priest of Shane MacGowan's native Puckane parish to officiate at funeral Mass

The funeral of Pogues front man Shane MacGowan will be officiated by Fr Pat Gilbert, the parish priest of Shane's native parish, Puckane outside Nenagh.

Fr Gilbert is co-Parish Priest of Nenagh, but also serves a number of areas, including Puckane, where Shane spent his childhood and where his mother's family came from near Carney Commons, and Silvermines where his parents bought a house a number of years ago when they returned to Ireland.

He also looks after Portroe (Castletown Arrha), Templederry (Killenaive), Youghalarra (Burgess and Youghal).

Shane's funeral cortege is expected to arrive in Nenagh at around 3.15pm this Friday for Requiem Mass at 3.300pm in St Mary of the Rosary Church, with cremation later.

The funeral arrangements are being looked after by Nenagh undertaker Philip Ryan of Connolly Street in the town.
