One garda is to be assigned to Clonmel, one to Nenagh, and one to Thurles, and four to Tipperary Town.

Seven new gardaí have been allocated to county Tipperary following today’s passing out in Templemore, one each in Clonmel, Nenagh, and Thurles, and four to Tipperary Town.

The allocation is out of today’s attestation of 206 probationer Gardaí at the Garda College. Following their graduation, the new members have now been assigned to Garda divisions across the country.

The news was welcomed by government party TDs both north and south of the county, Deputies Ryan O’Meara and Michael Murphy.

However, Deputy Murphy said the welcome news “does not remove the need for further Garda resources across South Tipperary”.

Deputy O’Meara was slightly more positive, saying that “Every additional Garda strengthens our local policing service and helps ensure our communities receive the support and protection they deserve”.

Deputy Murphy went on to praise the serving members of the force, in south Tipperary at least.

“I also want to acknowledge the outstanding commitment of the Gardaí already serving in South Tipperary. Every engagement I have with local members of An Garda Síochána reinforces just how dedicated and professional they are. They are working tirelessly under significant pressure and deserve our full support.”

Serving a population of about five million in the country, there are 14,733 Sworn Gardaí with another 3,683 Garda staff, 304 Garda reserves, and 604 Garda trainees.
