Entries are now open as the nationwide search begins for Ireland's next SuperLoo champion

People in Tipperary are being asked to put forward their favourite public toilet as the search begins for Ireland's next SuperLoo champion.

Businesses with respectable restrooms are being encouraged to enter the nationwide competition, which will see one public toilet take the national title and assume the SuperLoo throne.

The competition, which first ran in 1992, is returning more than three decades later to crown a new champion of Irish bathroom excellence. The original title was won by the Slieve Russell Hotel in Cavan.

Organisers say the search is not for posh potties, but rather a celebration of WCs with character, charm, practicality and high standards. Entries are welcome from every setting, including cafés, cinemas, clubs, garages, offices and libraries, with the focus on facilities that customers will remember for the right reasons.

People in Tipperary are also being encouraged to help spread the word by inviting businesses of every size and shape to get involved in what is described as Ireland's oldest restroom race.

The search is being organised by drainage experts Dyno-Rod, which is combing the country from top to bottom over the coming weeks in a bid to find Ireland's next SuperLoo.

Dyno-Rod was founded more than 50 years ago by chairman Peter Crowley, who initiated the original SuperLoo competition in the 1990s.

He said: "From decades of Dyno-Rod travelling the country, the toilets at any facility are without a doubt the gauge of customer experience. SuperLoo was created to celebrate the businesses across Ireland that take genuine pride in maintaining tidy, organised, accessible and well maintained public restrooms.

"We have worked with almost every type of business for decades to maintain the facilities their customers rely on every single day. SuperLoo is a chance for businesses to highlight their standards at a national level."

Businesses can nominate their bathrooms at superloo.ie, with entries judged on cleanliness, comfort, accessibility, style and character, smell and ventilation, hand drying facilities, hygiene products provided, ease of maintenance, cleaning standards, toilet paper ply level, toilet paper holder positioning and the overall customer experience.

Adjudicators will review every application before selecting a shortlist of ten entries, which will then go to a public vote to decide the destination of the 2026 SuperLoo title.

The closing date for applications is Friday, July 17.
