Tipperary choral and dramatic society marks 90 year anniversary with Jimmy’s Hall

Three generations bring music, dance, and drama to the stage in this lively adaptation
Cashel Choral and Dramatic Society has begun rehearsals for its forthcoming stage adaptation of Jimmy’s Hall, the acclaimed Ken Loach film, brought to the theatre by Graham McLaren and directed by Oliver Corbett. Performances will run at Brú Ború, Cashel, from Thursday November 20 to Sunday November 23, starting at 8pm.
This year marks a milestone for the Society, which celebrates 90 years of performance. Since its inaugural production, The Mystic Orient, in 1935, the group has become a fixture of local cultural life, fostering community engagement through drama and music. The upcoming production will see three generations of a single family take to the stage, highlighting the Society’s enduring appeal across age groups.
Jimmy’s Hall is set in 1930s Ireland and follows the story of Jimmy Gralton, who returns from America to reopen a community dance hall, confronting the social and political conventions of the era. The play combines humour, music, dance, and history, a blend that organisers say is particularly fitting for the Society’s anniversary celebrations. Audiences can expect a programme rich with eclectic musical performances.
Tickets are available online via Brú Ború, Cashel (062 61122), or in person at O’Dwyer’s Pharmacy, Main Street, Cashel (062 61318). Standard tickets are €20, with concessions of €15 available on Thursday for senior citizens and students.
With rehearsals underway, the Society is set to deliver another memorable production, continuing its long-standing tradition and cherished cultural reputation in the region.
