New Special School for Nenagh - Ryan O'Meara TD

The Fianna Fáil TD for North Tipperary, Ryan O'Meara has today welcomed very positive news for Nenagh and North Tipperary, with Education Minister Norma Foley's announcement of a new special school for the area.

Speaking on this today, Deputy O'Meara said: "I am delighted to welcome the very positive news from the Fianna Fáil Minister for Education, Norma Foley that Nenagh has been selected as the location for one of the five new special schools announced nationally today.

"Prior to the dissolution of the last Dáil, the outgoing Government confirmed that five new special schools would be built nationally, with one of these to be located in County Tipperary. I was adamant that North Tipperary was the ideal location for this school, and I am delighted that Nenagh has won out as the preferred location.

"During the course of the General Election campaign, it was clear that access to services and education for children with additional needs is a major issue in our society. I raised my concerns publicly at the time and remain committed to securing the services required to build an Ireland for All, and in my view that means an Ireland for all children, regardless of their ability or additional requirements.

"It is my understanding that the new special school will be under the patronage of Tipperary ETB. From discussions with officials, I can confirm that further details in relation to the site, location, timelines, and exact building works will be announced in the coming weeks.

"Continued and sustained investment in our education system at all levels must remain a priority for the incoming Government, and I certainly intend to be a strong voice and advocate in this area on behalf of the people who have elected me to serve in Dáil Éireann.

"I am sure that this will come as very positive news to the community in Nenagh and right across North Tipperary. It will certainly be welcomed by parents and children who require these school spaces in our area. I will continue to keep the public updated with further details as they become available and following further discussions with Minister Foley and her officials."
