A fundraiser has been set up to help organise a community gathering for those affected by Slievenamon mountain fires

Following a devastating outbreak of fires on Slievenamon mountain in Tipperary, thousands of euro has been raised for people living in the local area.

In a recent update, posted by Tipperary County Council, it is stated that the situation on Slievenamon remains stable and emergency services continue to monitor and manage the affected area.

“A small localised fire on the western side of the mountain is currently being managed by Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service and Coillte, with aerial support assisting operations.

“There is no current risk to life or property. Some flare-ups are expected following a wildfire of this scale and may continue until substantial rainfall arrives.

“Met Éireann is currently forecasting only light showers in the coming days. Situation remains stable Ongoing monitoring in place”.

The GoFundMe called the outbreak, which began during the week commencing 20th July, “one of the largest and most devastating fires ever witnessed on the mountain”.

Every euro raised will go towards a community gathering in September and will go directly towards people living in the local area.

What began as a wildfire quickly escalated into an unprecedented event, leaving a lasting impact on the landscape and the communities that call the foothills of Slievenamon home, the GoFundMe said.

The fundraiser has been established by several local residents to support the communities of Kilcash, Ballypatrick and Kilurney in Tipperary who have been deeply affected by this devastating event.

These communities are set at the foot of the Slievenamon mountain, “a place that has shaped local life, heritage and identity for generations”.

“To see such an iconic landscape scarred by fire has been heartbreaking for everyone. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who worked tirelessly to combat the fire and protect lives, homes, farmland and wildlife”.

The fundraiser has gave a special thanks in particular to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of Tipperary Fire & Rescue Service, Coillte, An Garda Síochána, the Irish Air Corps, and the many other agencies who responded with professionalism and dedication.

“Most importantly, we pay tribute to the extraordinary local community. Farmers, agricultural contractors, plant hire contractors, landowners, volunteers and countless local residents came together, often working in extremely difficult conditions, to help contain the fire and support the emergency response”.

The fundraiser said the determination, courage and community spirit from everyone involved was nothing short of remarkable and demonstrated the very best of what rural Ireland is about.

“The impact of this fire will be felt for some time. Recovery will take patience, commitment and the continued strength of the local community”.

Every euro raised through the GoFundMe appeal will be used to arrange a community gathering on the 19th of September with surplus donated directly to community organisations within the affected areas of Kilcash, Ballypatrick and Kilurney.

This will help them recover, rebuild, learn and thrive following the events of the Slievenamon fire.

Funds will support initiatives that strengthen the community, restore local amenities where appropriate, and ensure these proud communities emerge stronger from this difficult chapter.

“Whether you are a local resident, someone with connections to the area, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty and significance of Slievenamon, your support, no matter how big or small, will make a real difference,” the GoFundMe said.

So far, since it was set up four days ago, €7,950 has been raised so far.
