A decision to upgrade the existing pedestrian crossing at the Murgasty/Rosanna road junction in Tipperary town has been welcomed.

A motion calling for the upgrade and other works at the location was tabled at the meeting by Cllr Annemarie Ryan.

The upgrade, said Cllr Ryan, should include road markings, safety signage and improved railings.

Cllr Ryan said the junction operated as a busy school crossing serving St Anne’s Secondary School, St Joseph’s National School and the Monastery National School.

Cllr Ryan was told by officials that railings for the location had been purchased with the intention of upgrading the junction at the next significant school holiday period with suitable weather conditions.

The meeting was told that it was hoped that works will take place during the Easter holidays.

Cllr Annemarie Ryan said she was happy with the response to the matter from the officials.

Cllr Michael Fitzgerald said he was happy with the response to the motion.

He felt it would be an appropriate time to take a look at all of the town junctions .

UPGRADE

Cllr Fitzgerald said that the junctions should all be examined and upgraded if needed.

“Where you have a lot of traffic the paint is going to disappear over time. Early in the new year we should look at every junction in the town and carry out work to upgrade those junctions if it is needed,” said Cllr Fitzgerald.
