St Nicholas Boxing Club in Carrick-on-Suir hosted a welcome home party for boxer Rylee Finn, who won a bronze medal in the Under 17 European Championships (48kg category) in Budva, Montenegro last month.
Rylee, who is boxing since the age of six, fought four bouts, in the international competition.
He defeated Deniss Haschenko of Latvia in the first round and Rei Collaku of Albania and Samvel Grigoryan of Armenia in subsequent rounds of the championship.
The Russian boxer, who beat him in the semi-final, went on to win the gold medal.
Rylee qualified for the European Championships by winning the National Under 17 title in Dublin in July.
He took part in high-performance training with Team Ireland to prepare for the European Championships.
This is the third time Rylee has competed in the European Championships. He boxed in the Schoolboys category twice in the past.
There was a huge turnout of St Nicholas BC members, friends and family for Rylee’s welcome home at the club’s gym at Greenside on October 13.
Rylee will progress to Under 19 level in 2027 and currently trains twice a day.
He thanks everyone at St Nicholas Boxing Club for their support throughout his boxing career and praised the club’s coaches, Tommy Finn, Anthony Benesch and Scott Stewart and Treasurer Patsy Hahessy whose mentoring, coaching and dedication to the club and its members are a huge contribution to his success and the success of his fellow club members.
Club membership is now full, but if anyone is interested in joining, please message the St Nicholas Boxing Club Facebook page and they will keep you updated about availability.
Refurbished Premises
St Nicholas BC members are also delighted with their newly extended and refurbished premises, which gives them much more floor space for training.
The boxing club shares a kitchen and a separate room suitable for meetings with the ICA.
