Bord na Móna Recycling has announced the renewal of its partnership with The Curragh Racecourse, bringing together two notable Kildare-based organisations to support better and more sustainable ways to manage waste collection and recycling at the racecourse.

This partnership renewal comes following over seven years of collaboration between the two organisations.

As one of Ireland’s leading waste management providers, Bord na Móna Recycling is committed to providing quality waste management and recycling solutions as part of the company’s wider mission to contribute to a more sustainable future for Ireland through the delivery of renewable energy and climate solutions. This partnership with The Curragh Racecourse aligns with this mission, and will see both groups working together to improve the sustainability of the racecourse from a waste management perspective.

The Curragh is one of the country’s most iconic racecourses and is home to five of Ireland’s most important flat races - The Classics. A highlight of the partnership will be the launch of a new race series, the Bord na Móna Recycle and Race Series, which will include four races on each of The Curragh’s Summer race days throughout August.

Bord na Móna Recycling uses state-of-the-art technology to sift through waste collected at the racecourse and remove what can be used for recycling. This process significantly reduces the amount of waste being sent to landfills. Various initiatives will also be introduced at the racecourse to further improve current practices - including the introduction of educational sessions and resources for staff, visitors, trainers and jockeys to reduce plastics and encourage recycling, as well as an enhanced recycling programme.

Commenting on the renewal of the partnership, Evan Arkwright, Racing and Sponsorship Manager of The Curragh Racecourse said: “We have built a great relationship over the years with Bord na Móna Recycling and are delighted to renew our partnership which will focus on our August Summer Series of race days and our overall sustainability and recycling strategy.”

Helena O’Connell, Commercial Manager at Bord na Móna Recycling said: “We at Bord na Móna Recycling are delighted to continue our partnership with The Curragh. We are proud of the enhanced recycling program that we implemented at the racecourse, which will be used to set targets, track progress, and identify areas for improvement. By implementing these waste management practices with the help of Bord na Móna Recycling, The Curragh Racecourse will continue to minimise its environmental impact, contribute to a circular economy and adopt better waste management habits for a cleaner future..”
