BREAKING KILDARE NEWS: Ukrainian refugees to be accommodated on Naas' main street

A group of refugees who have fled the war in Ukraine are to be accommodated at a town centre setting in Naas.
Some 21 people will be provided with living quarters at a former house at 50 South Main Street, beside the now closed Five Lamps pub.
The dwelling was once the residence of well known RTE journalist PP O'Reilly, who presented the It Says In the Papers programme on Radio One for many years and who passed away in 1995.
The premises, along with the pub and the nearby Forge Inn, forms part of the Naas Shopping Centre development.
It's understood that Kildare County Council is involved with the project and that the premises has been leased by KCC for a two year period.
In June the first of fifty Ukrainian families arrived at a converted former equestrian centre in Kill.
People seeking protection from the brutal invasion by Russia are described as Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection in order to claim supports and this description differs from “international protection” which is governed by international agreements in place since the 1950s whereby countries assess and grant asylum.
