Labour councillor, Angela Feeney has sought clarification from Minister James Browne

A Maynooth Labour councillor has called for “urgent clarification” from Minister James Browne on the delivery of additional school and medical facilities for the town.

Reacting to today's announcement by the Minister that a second train station is to be provided for Maynooth, Cllr Angela Feeney said: "While I welcome the announcement today that a second train station is planned for Maynooth, however, I am seeking urgent clarification from the relevant ministers on the delivery of additional school and medical facilities to match the housing minister's goals".

Cllr Feeney said that with “huge population growth” we already have local services under pressure.

She said: “Schools in all our North Kildare towns are at capacity and we have long waiting lists for everything from childcare, school places, GP access as well as the very basic facilities for a town of its size, no primary care centre, no community centre.

“We also need more job delivery in the Maynooth-Kilcock area to match this growth so that people can live and work in their local communities.

"Providing quality, reliable public transport is essential and we absolutely need more housing but there must be matched provision of services so that families can have a proper quality of life."

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD has today approved €27 million in Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund (HIIF) funding for three new train stations that will help accelerate housing delivery in key growth areas across Cork and Kildare.

The funding will support the delivery of new stations – at Blarney and Water Rock in Cork and Maynooth West in Kildare - improving public transport connectivity and facilitating opening up the construction of more than 12,000 homes adjacent to the new public transport facilities.

The Maynooth West station will provide a second rail access point for the area, benefiting the university, students, commuters and communities across the surrounding area, including Kilcock and Rathcoffey.
