First count for Kildare North due, while battle continues in South Kildare

Back for day 2 at the Kildare count centre in Punchestown

Counting is due to get underway soon for the Kildare North and Kildare South constituencies.

So far, we've had five counts in Kildare South with no one yet elected. Sitting TD Patricia Ryan was eliminated last night so her votes will be distributed this morning. Martin Heydon (FG) is set to claim the first seat with Fiona O'Loughlin (FF), Shonagh Ní Raghallaigh (SF) and Mark Wall (Lab) in the running for the second and third seats. Where will the transfers go? That will be the question with geography and political leaning coming into play.

The first count for Kildare North is due this morning. Tallies indicate James Lawless (FF) will top the poll while sitting TD Bernard Durkan (FG) could be in trouble.
