Glenn Ryan reacts to Kildare's battering at home to Derry

Glenn Ryan met the press following Sunday's defeat and it was immediately obvious that the manager, like everyone else was hurting, was extremely disappointed with another below par performance from his side.
When asked what was the biggest disappointment of the performance, the manager said it was the performance; very little positives can be taken” adding “I though Mark Donnellan was outstanding; Mick O'Grady was outstanding but then throughout the field difficult where we won any battle; it was a very tough afternoon.
“The shooting may have given us an opportunity in the first half to be more positive in the second half but we just did not create enough chances in the first half, if you don't create enough your shooting has to be up to par; very high in the efficiency category which it was in Clare but if you don't take those chances; we are creating just too few chances.”
We are not at the level we need to be at and we are not there at the moment added a very dejected and disappointed manager.
While admitting that Derry are a good side the Towers man said “I thought we would test them more and I don't think we tested them to the level I would have expected and are capable of doing.”
What would he put that very poor performance down to and if he could pin-point anything in particular he replied: “I can't, I'd love to be able because if I did it would not have happened again; we were in the same position after the Cork game and all I can say is that we work on stuff on the training pitch; we work on stuff off the training pitch in the hope and the belief that it is going to be brought out on to the playing pitch but it's not happening.”
Is confidence an issue?
“It is an issue; any team that suffers defeats then confidence is an issue and we have to show resilience; a doggedness to overcome it and we need to overcome that doggedness and our resilience.
“We are out there as a group, whatever the players feel the management feel but it is not something that is going to stop us ...it is a challenge and when there is a challenge in front of you, you have to make sure you face that challenge the best that you can and see what comes out of it but we certainly believe these fellas can improve rather than what they are currently showing and from all our perspectives all we want as a management team is improve and we are not getting that improvement at the moment but it is not through a lack of effort from the management or from the players but we need to keep searching and probing and working hard to find it.”
