Kildare senior hurling manager, David Herity has brought his five year reign to an end with The Lilies. The former All-Ireland winning Kilkenny goalkeeper announced last week he was stepping away.

Under Herity's guidance Kildare have made huge progress, winning two Christy Ring Cups, gaining promotion to Division 2A and reaching the league final this season, only to lose out to Offaly.

The Joe McDonagh Cup campaign was, however, very disappointing with Kildare failing to win a game and being demoted back to Christy Ring status for 2024. See page 57.

Meanwhile the Leinster Leader understands that talks on the future of Kildare senior football manager, Glenn Ryan, and his management team, have been taking place.

Kildare Co Board management committee have already held their own 'in-house' discussions and it is understood that the county chairman has spoken to manager Ryan and is due to return to discussions shortly again.

The 'Fab Four' under the Round Towers man, which include Anthony Rainbow, Johnny Doyle and Dermot Earley, were given a three year term in 2022 with a review after two years and that is what is presently being undertaken.

It is anticipated if the management are to continue they may do so with some changes while there could also be some 'movement' in the backroom set-up.

But all that is up for discussion when the manager meets with the chairman, again. It is also understood the chairman has been taking soundings from senior players of late.

Kildare retained their Division 2 status of the AFL after a major scare; lost out to Dublin the Leinster SFC semi-final before recording their best victory of the year when defeating Roscommon in Round 3 of the Group Series only to lose out to Monaghan in the pre-quarter final, Monaghan in turn losing to Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final on Sunday.

Decision time is looming!
