Hanlon Concrete SFL Division 2 final

Maynooth 2-10

Sallins 1-10

Two second half goals, both from substitutes, proved the difference between Maynooth and Sallins in this entertaining Hanlon Concrete SFL Division 2 at Manguard Park on Sunday afternoon.

Cathal McCabe who came on after 25 minutes and Fionn Ó Giolláin who entered the game at half-time, both found the Sallins net in the 38 and 41 minutes respectively.

It was Maynooth who got off to the better start with three points inside the opening ten minutes, Sean Hever, Neil Flynn and Chris Canning raising white flags before Sallins got off the mark with a Colm Dalton pointed free on 11 minutes.

Chris Canning added one for the boys in black before Neil Flynn, showing his pace and power cut through to extend the lead to four points on 17 minutes.

Sallins though slowly got into the game and could have had a goal but a Jamie Cox effort was blocked by a defender and cleared.

Paul Farrelly reduced the lead on 20 minutes; Maynooth's Collum McCabe picked up a yellow before Colm Dalton fired over his second free to leave two separating the sides on 23 minutes.

Sallins were now dominating and when Colm Dalton fired over another free there was just one separating the sides.

Pat 'Stretch' Winders continued to attack at every opportunity and when Luke Killian, county U20 star for the last two years, went through the middle before calmly firing over to level with half time approaching.

Neil Flynn ran at the Sallins defence, dinking his way in before firing to the net but referee Barrett (rightly) disallowed the goal for over-carrying.

In the 31 minute Colm Dalton pushed through two defenders to give his side the lead for the first time a lead that saw Sallins lead at the break, Sallins 0-6 Maynooth 0-5.

Maynooth's Sean Hever leveled on 31; Colm Dalton regained the lead before the opening goal arrived after a great ball in by Neil Flynn was brilliantly caught, one-handed, by Cathal McCabe who turned and fired to the net.

Colm Dalton replied but Ryan Herbert was picking the leather out of the onion sack two minutes later after a great move involving Fionn Ó Giolláin and Cathal McCabe ended with the former blasting to the net to leave it 2-6 to 0-08 after 41 minutes.

Three yellow cards in the one incident but all separate incidents, all for Sallins, before John McAndrew increased the lead.

Colm Dalton who had a mighty game for Sallins added two frees; Neil Flynn fired over two great 45s along with a Paul Maguire point saw Maynooth clinch the title on a final score line of Maynooth 2-10 Sallins 0-10.
