Gratitude and hope expressed at County Kildare Municipal District meeting

Kind words were exchanged between councillors and Kildare County Council officials
The latest meeting of the Clane-Maynooth Municipal District (MD) ended with a hope-filled speech from its Cathoirleach, Fine Gael councillor Tim Durkan.
As the meeting (which was held on Friday, May 3 last) came to a close Cllr Durkan thanked his fellow councillors and representatives of Kildare County Council (KCC) for their work over the last term.
In turn, Cllr Durkan received gratitude from his political colleagues, who commended him on his work as Cathaoirleach over the last year.
Cllr Brendan Wyse, who is a party colleague of Cllr Durkan, garnered a few laughs when he told Cllr Durkan: "You did a great job... you were very fair, you even pulled me up a few times!"
Labour Party Cllr Angela Feeney also thanked Cllr Durkan for his work as Cathaoirleach, adding that he 'always kept the meetings running so well and on time.'
Marian Higgins, KCC’s Director for Climate, Community, Environment and Water, also praised the work of the councillors, telling them: "You’re all so united."
Green Party Cllr Peter Hamilton said: "I have no doubt that we are the best MD," while Independent Cllr Pádraig McEvoy praised the political diversity present in the MD.
The latter councillor also said to his fellow representatives: "It has been a privilege to serve with you all."
Cllr Durkan bookended the ceremony by saying: "It is clear that we leave party politics at the door when we come in here."
He also thanked Ms Higgins and the rest of KCC for 'always being ready' at the meetings, and concluded by saying to everyone in attendance: "From the bottom of my heart, thank you, everyone."
