An Bord Pleanála has upheld Kildare County Council's decision to refuse planning permission for the construction of a large-scale residential development of 168 homes in Sallins.

A planning application submitted in March to Kildare County Council by William Neville and Sons Construction was refused planning permission in May.

The proposed development was earmarked for the Clane Road and the Sallins Link Road.

Being planned were 106 dwelling houses comprising mostly of 56 2-storey 3 bed semi-detached/end of terrace and 28 2-storey 2-bed terraced houses.

Three 4-storey apartment blocks containing 54 units were also proposed.

The designs included a creche located at ground floor in one apartment block.

Also in the plans were internal access roads and surface level car parking of 250 spaces.

A basement was due to accommodate 42 car parking spaces, bicycle parking and bin storage.

Public open spaces would have included a multi-use games area (MUGA) and landscaping.
