KILDARE ANIMALS IN NEED: Fancy owning a ferret?

The KWWSPCA has a female ten month old neutered ferret for adoption.

She is very friendly and affectionate and loves cats, dogs and people.

She has a varied diet and enjoys chicken, mince, cat food and has a thing for red peppers.

She uses a litter tray and at present she makes nests for herself.

A new owner might want to consider a large cage.

She will need to go to a pet-only home.

Ferrets are members of the same family as otters, stoats, weasels and badgers.

They are highly intelligent and social pets and they enjoy going on adventurous walks on a harness.

Ferrets have an inquisitive and playful nature.

They can learn to see humans as companions and form a strong bond with their owners.

This makes them a popular pet choice because of their sociable and charming character.

Ferrets like sleeping and a healthy ferret may sleep between 18 and 20 hours a day.

They are most active at dawn and dusk.

They live for around six years but can live up to ten years if in good health.
